The Convener, Linda Uneze, Managing Partner of Maurice Xandra Solutions in her opening remarks set the tone for the event by emphasizing the importance of innovative approaches amidst evolving challenges and opportunities in Nigeria. Recognizing the rapidly changing business landscape in the country, Linda Uneze highlighted the need for businesses to adopt unconventional strategies to navigate barriers and unlock growth potential. It was against this backdrop that the conference theme, “Business Unusual: Breaking Barriers,” was chosen to encapsulate the spirit of innovation and resilience necessary for success in Nigeria’s dynamic market.

Throughout the conference, Linda Uneze reiterated the theme and encouraged participants to embrace a mindset of creativity and adaptability in addressing the diverse challenges and opportunities present in Nigeria’s business environment. She emphasized the importance of thinking outside the box and exploring unconventional solutions to traditional problems, emphasizing that true innovation often arises from challenging the status quo.

Throughout the conference, discussions centered on four key areas critical to understanding Nigeria’s business environment: Diversification of the Nigerian Economy, Security as a Yardstick of a Nation’s Attractiveness for Business, Business Resilience in Turbulent Times, and Leveraging Emerging Technologies to Improve SME Productivity by Ojunekwu Augustine (Austin) Avuru, Chairman, AA Holdings; Co-Founder and Pioneer CEO of Platform Petroleum Limited & Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc, Rear Admiral C.O.R Ezekobe (RTD), Dr. Owen D. Omogiafo, President/Group Chief Executive Officer, Transcorp and Lynda-Saint Nwafor, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, MTN Nigeria PLC respectively. The distinguished keynote speakers from various industries and sectors shared insights on these topics, offering valuable perspectives for attendees.

The event featured engaging panel sessions with expert speakers addressing specific aspects of Nigeria’s business landscape. These sessions provided a platform for in-depth discussions and knowledge exchange, covering topics such as the diversification of the Nigerian economy by Ben Llewellyn Jones: Deputy High Commissioner, British Deputy High Commission, Lagos, Nigeria, Rotimi Odusola: Corporate Relations Director & Company Secretary, Guinness Nigeria PLC, Engr. Edu Okeke: Managing Director, Azura Power West Africa, Lola Esan: Partner, Ernst and Young, and Rotus Oddiri of Arise TV. 

Another panel session touched on the role of security in fostering a conducive business environment by Bukola Smith: Managing Director, FSDH Merchant Bank, Wale Olaoye: CEO, Halogen Group, Tanwa Ashiru: CEO, Bulwark Intelligence and Oyinpreye Aigbogun: CEO, Epicure Insurance Brokers. 

A highlight of the conference was the business pitch segment, which provided a comprehensive platform for knowledge exchange and networking. Four enterprises (Oneid, Sakula, Nutraboom and Wano)presented live pitches to esteemed judges, Dr. Andrew S Nevin – Partner, PWC West Africa, Olufunke Jones – Divisional Head, Corporate Banking (Providus Bank), and Paul Onwuanibe – Group CEO, Landmark Africa Group. The judges offered valuable feedback, and one triumphant business (OneID) was awarded a grand prize of $10,000 USD.

The Convener, Linda Uneze, underscored the significance of entrepreneurship and innovation in driving economic growth and development. She emphasized the need for aspiring entrepreneurs to develop disruptive business models that could effectively address pressing societal needs and contribute to sustainable development.
